Public Health Workforce Development System

Now more than ever, it is essential for the public health workforce to have the resources and the knowledge to address health risks and problems within communities quickly, effectively, and efficiently.

The Public Health Workforce Development System (PHWDS) online at PublicHealthPreparedness.org will:

  • Assess your individual training needs and interests.
  • Identify training opportunities that meet those needs.
  • Track for you the trainings you choose to take.

The assessment consists of one section on emergency preparedness and response, ten sections on core public health competency areas, and a small number of basic demographic questions.

Once you have completed the assessment, you will see a list of trainings that match your highest priority competency areas. These training opportunities are broad in scope, content, and delivery, and they are updated regularly, so please return to the site often to see new resources.

Data from the system can also be used to identify training needs for agencies, organizations, and occupational groups. Contact NCCPHP at 919-843-5559 or nccphp@unc.edu to see how your group can use PublicHealthPreparedness.org to meet its training and assessment needs.
