About the Center: Overview
The North Carolina Center for Public Health Preparedness is a program of the North Carolina Institute for Public Health, the service and outreach arm of the University of North Carolina's School of Public Health.
The overall mission of NCCPHP is to improve the capacity of the public health workforce to prepare for and respond to terrorism and other emerging public health threats by:
- assessing the competency of the public health workforce in core public health skills and bioterrorism preparedness,
- facilitating training to meet the assessed needs, and
- carrying out applied research on emerging health issues.
NCCPHP is part of a national network of Centers for Public Health Preparedness funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention through Grant/Cooperative Agreement U90/CCU424255.
Training
NCCPHP offers a variety of training resources for individuals and organizations. See the navigation menu for links to many of these resources. Other training opportunities developed or sponsored by NCCPHP include the following:
- Certificate in Field Epidemiology program
- Introduction to Communicable Disease Surveillance and Investigation course for communicable disease nurses in North Carolina
- Pandemic influenza online course for North Carolina public health professionals
- Forensic epidemiology and public health emergency law, based on the CDC foundational course
- Annual North Carolina Epidemiology Teams Educational Conference
- Face-to-face and videoconference continuing education courses
Outreach and Partnerships
NCCPHP actively works to maintain partnerships with state and local health departments, as well as with other Centers for Public Health Preparedness. Center staff participates on the following committees in North Carolina:
